The Washington Post reports that Lt. Gov. Tim Kaine (D) and Attorney General Jerry Kilgore (R) raised nearly identical sums of cash in the first half of 2004, with Kilgore slightly ahead with $1.25 million to Kaine's $1.24 million.
From the article:
"Students of Virginia politics said they were impressed with Kaine's ability to keep pace will Kilgore, especially in a state where Republicans control the General Assembly as well as most of the delegation to Congress. They also pointed out that Kaine could benefit from the fundraising prowess of Gov. Mark R. Warner, a fellow Democrat who was able to raise $2 million during the same six-month period four years ago, largely by courting the Northern Virginia business community."
Hello Everyone,
As many of you know, Gov. Howard Dean is scheduled to make an announcement about his bid for DNC chair this afternoon. Time and again, Gov. Dean has demonstrated his deep support of democratic ideals. After years of losses, when everyone else was afraid, Gov. Dean came out of the darkness and told us "not to be afraid." This is why President Carter called Gov. Dean a "man of courage."
Gov. Dean is by far the best man for the job of DNC Chairman. (www.democracyforamerica.com)
To demonstrate our support of his bid, we want to hold a rally on Inauguration Day supporting Gov. Howard Dean for DNC Chair. Sure, we all disagree with Bush, but rather than protest him, we can make better use of our time by having a positive impact. With all of the protests and rallies taking place against Bush on that day, a rally for Dean would definitely stick out and catch a lot of attention. We do not need anything large or fancy. All we need is a group of 50-100 committed people who want to inform the DNC that:
- If they want to win elections like Republicans, than they are not really winning at all.
- If they want to win, they have to defend their convictions, not hide from them.
- Most importantly, we want to remind the DNC that we support a set of Principles and Ideals that the Democratic party once represented, and if they no longer want to represent those ideals, than the DNC no longer wants to represents us.
The next DNC chair will play a critical role in shaping the Democratic Party's future. Now is our chance to stand up and defend the party and ideals that we have built up. Please come and help.
